THE SANCTUARY JOURNEY

THE 12 ENDOWMENTS

The Peace Sanctuary unfolds through twelve distinct places known as the Twelve Endowments at Mbin Ndem.

Together they form a journey through walking, water, forest, reflection, reconciliation, transition, self-discovery and spiritual growth.

Each Endowment has its own story and purpose within the larger Mbin Ndem experience.

The Peace Road is a 300-metre walking trail between the Mile 14 area and the sanctuary.

Founding Document NarrativeMbin Ndem Peace Sanctuary

The founding vision invites visitors to begin the journey slowly and intentionally — reflecting on their lives, circumstances, purpose and the kind of family and future they hope to build.

It is a road of preparation: a place to quiet the mind and enter Mbin Ndem with peace as the intention.

The Bridge marks the crossing into Mbin Ndem.

Founding Document NarrativeMbin Ndem Peace Sanctuary

In the founding document, crossing the river symbolizes leaving behind old ways, mistakes and burdens and entering the sanctuary with a renewed mind.

The site is also significant because two streams meet there — a natural image of different things coming together. The bridge itself carries part of the history of Mbin Ndem, having been constructed through considerable effort and sacrifice.

ENDOWMENT 03•Mbin Ndem
Protected Ancient Canopy Glade03 / 12

The Ark is conceived as an “Upper Room” — a place for encounter, learning and transformation.

Founding Document NarrativeMbin Ndem Peace Sanctuary

The founding document draws inspiration from the biblical story of Saul’s encounter with Ananias, where new understanding led to a changed life and a new direction.

At Mbin Ndem, the Ark represents an opportunity to encounter new teaching, question old assumptions and consider how deeper understanding can change the way a person sees life.

04 — The Twin Rock

ENDOWMENT 04•Mbin Ndem
Basalt Monolith Outcrop by the Creek Bend04 / 12

Twin Rock is one of the most distinctive symbols at Mbin Ndem.

Founding Document NarrativeMbin Ndem Peace Sanctuary

The founding material explores the significance of twins through biblical, spiritual, cultural and scientific perspectives, while the rock itself represents strength, stability and spiritual grounding.

For the Tazifor family, the symbolism has an additional meaning: Mbin Ndem Peace Sanctuary and Mbin Ndem Farms are described as twin creations — different in purpose, yet conceived together and deeply connected. The Twin Rock therefore speaks to shared origin, connection and distinct purpose.

ENDOWMENT 05•Mbin Ndem
Natural Volcanic Spring Source Above the Falls05 / 12

The water at this point comes from the spring above the waterfall.

Founding Document NarrativeMbin Ndem Peace Sanctuary

Physically, it is natural spring water filtered naturally through Mount Cameroon's volcanic strata.

Within the Mbin Ndem journey, however, the founding document gives the spring a spiritual meaning — particularly for people who come with faith, humility and a desire for renewal. Healing is presented as a spiritual renewal of mind and heart through sincere faith without medical or physical cure claims.

Founding Document NarrativeMbin Ndem Peace Sanctuary

Its purpose goes beyond refreshments. The founding document describes it as a place for reconciliation — within oneself, between spouses, or between people who have been in conflict.

Visitors may sit, talk, share something to eat or drink, and take time to put difficult thoughts, words or relationships in order before continuing the journey.

The First Forest

The First Forest is entered after moving deeper into the sanctuary. The founding document presents this area as a place for repentance, moral reflection and renewed commitment — asking visitors to examine their own actions and their responsibilities toward others. The area also carries a solemn part of Mbin Ndem’s history. The body of a young woman named Dora was found in this forest in 2022. Her memory is treated with dignity within the Mbin Ndem story, and the site invites visitors to reflect on life, responsibility, righteousness and the kind of world and family they hope to help create.

The Water Fall

The Water Fall is a seasonal waterfall located below the spring-water source. The founding document describes a drop of approximately 12 metres. This place is intended for personal prayer, devotion and communication with God in whatever language or tradition is meaningful to the visitor. The surrounding water and forest create an environment for stillness, asking, seeking and reflection.

The Meditation Hut

The Meditation Hut provides a quiet, enclosed place for individuals or couples to pause and meditate. The intention is to step away from surrounding distractions, quiet one’s thoughts and reflect more deeply on spiritual life, relationships and family. The founding vision emphasizes that Mbin Ndem is open to people from different faith-based traditions.

The Hanging or Cross-Over Bridge

Also known as: The Peace Bridge

More than 21 metres long, the Cross-Over Bridge represents transition and maturity. The journey across symbolizes moving from old ways toward new ways of thinking, speaking and acting. Its message is one of leaving behind what no longer serves a peaceful life and crossing toward renewed character, stronger relationships and peaceful family life. The founding document also expresses a broader message: building bridges of peace across the land.

The Wilderness Territory

The Wilderness Territory lies within a peninsula of land between two rivers. The founding document presents this Endowment as a place for self-discovery and self-actualization. Visitors are encouraged to reflect on the person they were uniquely created to become rather than simply following the lives or expectations of others. Its central idea is that inspiration alone is not enough: human beings also carry personal responsibility for turning purpose into reality.

The Mountain Forest Top

Mountain Forest Top is the culmination of the Twelve Endowments journey. The founding document calls it the “Promised Land” of Mbin Ndem Peace Sanctuary and the “holy of holies.” It is envisioned as a place of deeper realization — where visitors reflect on who they truly are, their self-worth, their relationship with God and their responsibility as participants in creation. The document also envisions an orchard here, including medicinal plants, as part of the future development of the site.

The Journey Does Not End at the Top

The Twelve Endowments are intended to lead visitors through more than the physical landscape of Mbin Ndem. The journey asks questions about peace, family, relationships, faith, character, responsibility and purpose. What begins on Peace Road ends at Mountain Forest Top — but the deeper intention is that visitors carry something from the journey back into everyday life.
